The Stolen Day

Stolen Day
“It must be that all children are actors.” A interesting concept that is also true. As told in the short story “Stolen Day” that if you really think that something is true, even if it’s not, you will start to believe it. This lesson or trait is something that can be good, and bad.
In many ways the trait that this boy has is good. For an example if you really do believe that you can do something, like winning a game, you will have more confidence of courage to do it. If from the beginning you think that you can’t do it you won’t try your hardest because you will think what is the point of trying if I’m only going to fail. Even though it can be a good thing it can also come with a down side to it.
In the story “Stolen Day” this young boy uses this trait in a bad way. He just wanted to go fishing like his friend Walter so he thought if he had inflammatory rheumatism he could. It came to a point where he really thought that he had this disease which isn’t good to think if it’s not true. Just because he really wanted to go fishing he made up stories that he eventually believed.
In all its something that most kids do. They come up with a story so they can stay home from school. In the story they talk about how he is a hero because he caught this big fish and even though he was “sick”. When everyone found out why he came home from school they all started to laugh at him. He started to cry and knew that that would be the last time he had inflammatory rheumatism.
Thinking something is true when it’s not is what “Stolen Day” is all about. Just because you want to do something doesn’t me you can. If it’s a good thing or a bad thing is how you use it.

The last wish

The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side
As many people don’t notice almost everyone is always looking for better, never happy with what they have. Because of this someone getting three wishes is the perfect gift. In the story “The Third Wish” a man learns that even the littlest things can make a person happy.

“The grass is always greener on the other side.” This is the way that most people think. That if they had certain things, or lived in certain places it would be better. That it this one thing changes my life would be better. The truth is that everyone wants more, and in the story “The Third Wish” these old man is thinking that he would be happier only if he had a wife. So when he gets a wife he is very surprised that he isn’t happy, not because of the girl but because she is being punished just so he could be happy. Just like the king said the man uses his wish to undo the first wish. One thing that he learned from his wife was that he is fine with what he has and doesn’t always need more. If everyone learned this lesson people would live a much better life just being happy and grateful with what they have.

“The Third Wish” is a romance because of the symbols it has throughout the whole story, starting with the swan. When he finds the swan it is stuck and the old man freed the bird which gave him three wishes. After that the talk of water, forest, and nature describes where this man lives. The water is a symbol of life, just like plants are. Even though in the end of it the old man ends up dying it is not a bad thing in this situation it was actually something that was there to show freedom. As it says in the story “In the morning Mr. Peter was found peacefully dead in his bed with a smile of great happiness on his face.” Because of this sentence it shows that he was happy with his life.
The “Third Wish” has more than just symbols that make it a romance; The wholes story has a fantasy way to it. It talks about wishes and genies, things that are only told in the fairy tales. Because of the fantasy it makes you imagine and creates escapism. It makes you escape to a place where you can dream and that is what a romance is.
“The Third Wish” teaches that even a small thing like being with a sister can make you happy, and that if you always want more you will never appreciate what you have. If we all learned this lesson I think that we would all be much happier.

The lie

The Lies We Tell
Your stuck, one lie lead to the next now you can’t get out if only you told the truth from the beginning wouldn’t end up here. This is the feeling that too many people feel these days. You don’t realize it but we live in a world that is full of lies, people lie to their friends, and family. The people you love the most will be affected by your lies and still we lie almost every day. In “The lie” they show this in a great way, the lie that he makes doesn’t just effect him but his whole family, the worst lies effect more then just you.
As shown through the whole story they plot is comedic. It starts out with normalcy, which is going him to the Whitehill School, and this is normal because generations of his family went to this school before so it was expected that he would fallow his family tradition. Then when he doesn’t do or pass the test that gets him into the school he doesn’t tell his parents that he wasn’t accepted, because of this lie the parents still believe he is going to the Whitehill School. This was the first lie in the story and it cares out through the whole story. Even though it seems like it is a small lie it is something that affects his whole family by breaking the chain of generations going to this school. As the story goes on we realize that the Eli the boy who was going to go to this school is much different then his family, to were his mom always feels that she needs to be better then everyone else, or his dad who just wants to keep a family tradition up. Eli keeps this a secret from his parents because he wants to be accepted by them so he lies to get approval. In the end his parent come to the conclusion that it is his chose where her goes to school. After that every thing goes back to how it normally. It’s fallows the plot line of the comedy.

The lie is a great story that has lots of things that make you think in it. We always tend to lie to the people that we care about the most and in Eli’s case it is his parents. When a lie effects more then you like it did in the lie it makes it worse because for every person you get involved you have to fix it.

How to build a fire.

How to build I fire
You sit there as you are freezing to death, you can’t even so a simple thing as eat your lunch. In how to build a fire this nightmare was happening to a young man who was traveling through a forests to get to a camp. How to build a fire is tragic story that has a great lesson hidden between the lines.

The plot of this story is a tragic. It starts out with the main character having the problem of having to walk in the cold to the camp, it goes on to him making a fire which is when the main character rises to his power. His character flaw is that he thinks that he can beat the weather. After this comes the tragic fall which is that he can’t start a fire and he is freezing to death. It ends with him dying, this plot is perfect for the tragic mode. Another reason that this is a Tragic is because of the symbols.

The symbols of tragedy are all throughout this story. It starts out the dogs instincts that something will go wrong this is one of the first symbols pointing to tragic. The second one is where he is aculy starting to get in danger and his feet fall through the ice this makes him start to freeze. This is very important because his life is starting to get in danger. His fire is put out by the tree when normally you see the tree as a good thing something that could shelter you from something like the weather but in this story it puts out the fire which eventually kills him. There is more to this then just the mode there is a great lesson to be learned in this story.

In to build a fire a young man learns a lesson a little too late. He learns that you can’t beat the weather and when someone tells you something you should believe what they say because it could save your life. If this man would have listen to the old man he probably wouldn’t be dead, if he would have traveled with a friend then he would have been able to build a fire when he needed it but because of his stupid mistake he lies died.

There’s nothing you can do when you think you can beat the weather, all he could do was sit and freeze. The story of an hour is a tragic story that has a hidden lesson that listen to your elders and be realistic on what you can and can’t do.

journal-1/19/10-Man vs themself

I think that the story The neckless is a man vs her self. She always feal that she isnt good enough and that even when she had something there was always someone who had something more. She kept compareing her self to the richer world unstead of being happy with what she has. She never felt that she was good enough so she ruined her life.
